We grieve with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc people, Indigenous communities, residential school survivors and families

Board members of B.C. Insight Meditation Society join communities across Canada in supporting theTk’emlúps te Secwépemc people and Indigenous communities nationwide. We mourn, with others, the lives of the 215 children whose remains were found at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.

We acknowledge the intergenerational grief, trauma and loss caused by Canada’s residential schools and other colonial systemic policies entrenched and supported by all levels of government. Further, we encourage all non-Indigenous people to consider ways of building a more just, equitable and peaceful path forward. To this end, the following 7 ways non-Indigenous people can help may be helpful. We also encourage all members of the  BCIMS sangha to learn and understand the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

With karuna (compassion) and sorrow,

The BCIMS Board of Governors
